THE CARING VET'S GOAL IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL OF OUR CLIENTS AND PATIENTS LEAVE OUR FACILITY SATISFIED.
We would love to hear about your recent visit with us! Your feedback is greatly appreciated and helps us grow each day!
WE HAVE KNOWN DR. SELMER FOR OVER 12 YEARS.
He cared for our beautiful yellow lab Kelley since she was a puppy. We were all shocked and devastated when Kelley was diagnosed with a very aggressive malignant tumor before her sixth birthday. The kindness and support that Dr. Selmer and his staff provided was immeasurable. One of his staff members actually stayed with our Kelley through the night before her surgery. Dr. Selmer and his staff stayed in close contact with our family during our grief, determined to help us find another dog to ease the pain and shock of losing Kelley at such a young age.
Our only son Michael was very distraught, and Dr. Selmer felt very strongly that we needed to bring a new dog into our home, especially for Michael, who had developmental delays as a child. Dr. Selmer felt that having a dog was very important for Michael’s emotional and developmental well being. We struggled with this, because of course we felt that Kelley could not be replaced. It was the weekend of Mother’s Day. Dr. Selmer brought Maggie into our lives. Maggie is a gorgeous black lab who is now seven years old. We are so blessed to have her in our lives, thanks to Dr. Selmer. Maggie is a wonderful companion and amazing “sister” to Michael, who is now a college student. She is a very happy dog, always wanting to please everyone. She is particularly jubilant when Mike comes home from school for the weekends and holidays. She adores him, and we adore her! Thank goodness Maggie has had only minor issues, and Dr. Selmer is always “spot on” with everything, getting her back to health in an expedient fashion. Thank you Dr. Selmer! You are amazing!
With love, The Mahoski Family
The Caring Vet offers a loving, caring, knowledgeable place for your pet.
I JUST WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR BOTH NOELLE AND MYSELF.
Noelle is the most important thing to me in the world, and from the day we walked into your door, you have treated her with the same love, kindness and concern that I do. That was and is very important to me.
Ever since that day, Noelle has never been better. No matter what crazy thing we have come in with, you were quick to diagnose and cure. You have also accommodated her “special requests” lol…… Then because of what you called a hunch, you were able to catch her Cushing’s Disease early on before it took a bad turn and possibly threatened her life. Now instead of harsh medications, she is able to take alternative medications and vitamins and she has never looked, acted or felt better.
You have taught me everything I need to know to give my dog a LONG, happy and healthy life with me. You have been patient, and kind, and what you have taught me has helped others I know as well as Noelle. I feel responsible and educated because of all that you have done.
You are the best thing that has ever happened to her! We are so thankful for you!

Everything was perfect! Thank you. Hope loves going to the vet!

We started seeing Dr. Selmer because our vet suggested we get a 2nd opinion for our boxer puppy who was sick early on and couldn't be helped further. Now that Dr. Selmer has been treating Daisy, we decided to move the rest of our pets over to his office. Dr. Selmer is very knowledgeable and really spends the time with you focusing on the best treatment for your pets. He had made us feel confident and I know my pets are in the best care with him. Highly recommend.
Deborah Finan
Extremely pleased. The staff are friendly and very professional. Aidan was quite relaxed at his two appointments where he had acupuncture and cold laser treatment for weakness and pain of his extremities. His diet was reviewed and changes were recommended. He has been responding quite well thus far.
Roxy
Dr. Selmer demonstrated that he understood our concerns for Roxy's care beyond her specialists. His ability to work with the other care givers to maximize Roxy's results is important to us. He is a caring animal lover who can provide the extra level of care you don't get from other primary care givers. We appreciated the time he spent with us discussing our dog's circumstances and the overall concern and attention by the staff for Roxy's experience to be a positive one.
TELEMEDICINE WORKS!
I live in an area of Florida where we have no holistic Veterinarians, so a friend on Long Island recommended Dr. Selmer. In just one 10-minute phone call, he was able to give me holistic treatment options for my German Shepherd's granulomas; and it's working beautifully!
Thank you again for all your help! The liver is doing wonders!!!

I felt Dr. Salmer was just as concerned for my pups well being as I am. He took his time and explained everything. I feel very hopeful that he will guide her back to a healthy active lifestyle. Thanks!

Dr Selmer is a very thorough and compassionate vetinarian. His knowledge of both Eastern and Western approach to his patients is impressive. The staff of professionals in his office are also a real asset to their practice.

Dr. Selmer diagnosed and expedited Harriet's treatment for her heart. Without his diligence, Harriet would no longer be with us. Thank you, doc.
IF THERE WAS A DR. SELMER AND STAFF FAN CLUB I WOULD BE THE NUMBER 1 FAN!!!
1: He cares about your pet like it was his own.
2: He believes in finding the root of the problem, not just treat the symptoms.
3: He combines Eastern and Western medicine to provide the most comprehensive care possible.
4: He spends time with you and answers all your questions. No rushing you out the door here.
5 :He doesn't give up. Our 5 lb. Pomeranian, Oliver, suffers from seizures. Dr. Selmer has worked tirelessly to find the right treatment that would have the least amount of side effects with the most benefit.
6 :He is available when you need him. If there is an emergency you can get in touch with him. You can email him if you have questions. Have you ever heard of such dedicated care?!!!
7: His staff is amazing. They know who you are and who your pet is by name. They are kind and caring. I don't know what I would do without Dr. Selmer, truly.

I APPRECIATE THE TIME DR. SELMER TOOK TO LISTEN TO MY CONCERNS AND PROVIDED ME WITH A CARING, DIRECT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE RESPONSE.
Thank you for seeing my dog Maxie and I on such short notice. I am so glad we found you. Maxie had not slept in three days due to his severe skin issue and bad reaction to the medicine that an allopathic vet gave him and was not himself at all. He finally made a turnaround yesterday afternoon--a day after our visit to your office and the shot you gave him--and wagged his little tail for the first time. I appreciate the time Dr. Selmer took to listen to my concerns and provided me with a caring, direct and knowledgeable response. I also appreciate Dr. Selmer suggesting I call on Sunday--his day off--if anything went wrong. I look forward to our future visit for the allergy testing.

AS THE OLD SAYING GOES "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!" THANKS DR. SELMER!
Over the past few years Dr. Selmer has provided my 2 dogs with the best quality of life that they could have given their health issues. Because of Dr. Selmer's approach to pet care, my 12 year old foxhound Chloe was happier and more vibrant in her later years. My 3 year old pitbull Milli is currently in remission from stage 4 lymphoma after 3 months of care. This is all due to the holistic approach I chose to take with Dr. Selmer's guidance. My family and I decided not to give Milli the hard chemotherapy drugs. She was only given prednisone as a palliative treatment. Acupuncture, Chinese herbs and a special homemade diet has made all the difference in Milli's life. The 2 things I will always do is get pet insurance and take my pet to Advanced Animal Care Center! Good health care is expensive even for a pet. As the old saying goes "You get what you pay for!" Thanks Dr. Selmer!

I JUST WANT TO SAY HOW APPRECIATIVE I AM OF YOUR HELP IN BENI'S RECOVERY.
I remember the first day I came to you, almost breaking down in tears, worrying that something was severely wrong with his leg. His limp was not getting better and I feared the worst. But with a confident and warm smile, I was comforted by your assurance that we would find out what was wrong and do what we needed to do to get him better.
Since I always choose to go the natural/holistic route first, I was so happy to know that you were supportive of my decision. It showed that you really cared about his health; something I wasn't so sure about with my previous veterinarians. And even though we were expecting his leg to take a lot longer to heal going the natural route, I was amazed by his speedy recovery.
At first, it was the natural medication and when I wanted to try something else, you presented me with the option to try Acupuncture. I believe that made all the difference. Anyone who knows Beni knows that he's the sweetest dog, but he has his limits of what you can do to him. First treatment... he wasn't so happy about the needles, but something sparked in him the second time on. You could see that he was experiencing healing. It was amazing to watch him start to relax with this expression like he was grateful you were helping him. I've never seen him lay down so peaceful and so quiet before. He's always running around, barking, or just up to something.
Well anyway, for an injury that was occurring for well over a year, you were able to completely heal it in just under a year, without any harmful medications or surgery, and I'm beyond grateful. Beni loves you and all of your staff because you're all not only such caring animal lovers but, I'm pretty sure he knows you helped him. It's hard to find a vet who not only cares about his patients but about their owners feelings too! Thanks again, Dr. Selmer.
-Beni & Kate 🙂
I MET DR. SELMER A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS AGO WHEN MY CESAR (CAT) HAD CANCER. WE TRIED TO MAKE HIS LAST MONTHS MORE COMFORTABLE WITH A HOLISTIC APPROACH.
Dr. Selmer explained more to me in our first visit about Cesar's cancer than Cesar's Oncologist did. Cesar's cancer was too aggressive & advanced and died a few weeks after meeting Dr. Selmer.
After Dr. Selmer found out that Cesar had died he called me on his own time to give his condolences and to offer support. Cesar had 3 different doctors treating him and Dr. Selmer, who only met us a couple of times, was the only one to acknowledge my loss.
Since then I will not see another vet. Since then we decided to take a more holistic approach to our other furry kids.
Our 12-year-old Husky, Coal, has been on different herbal supplements for approximately 3 years and it seems like he has gotten 3 years younger instead of older. The knowledge and love and support Dr. Selmer has given Coal has helped Coal to stay young, lively and full of life where Coal can keep up with his younger 3 year old sister. When we adopted Belle from North Shore Animal League with an upper respiratory infection we immediately took her to Dr. Selmer.
While Dr. Selmer was on vacation he emailed me checking on how Belle was doing. Never has another vet ever called or emailed checking on one of our pets even after surgery before, Dr. Selmer was the first. He truly cares about his patients and you, the owner.
If we need to come to Dr. Selmer with a medical issue he is not quick to run unnecessary test and does not send us off with all kinds of pills that have a ton of side affects. His first priority is not to put the animals under any added stress then what is necessary. He is ALWAYS expanding his knowledge, reading articles, taking classes (acupuncture) to help improve the quality of his patients. He has so much passion for what he does & it is evident every time we see him. He puts his heart and soul into his practice, his patients and their human friends too. I have taken my furry friends to 4 different vets of the past 17 years and Dr. Selmer is my last. We ALL love him, and couldn't ask for a better person or vet, to help us have as long of a loving happy life with our furry kids.
- Heidi Brauer-Folusiak
DR. SELMER AND HIS STAFF ARE WONDERFUL, CARING DEDICATED ANIMAL HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS AND AWESOME PEOPLE!
We love his philosophy, that he is open & educated in both western & eastern medicines. We are grateful to have found him to help our 16yr 11 month old pup (she started treatment with 2 months ago). She has been having health issues intermittently for a couple years which she was taking medications for and had side effects from them. Because of his thorough exam we discovered 2 infections that were not tested for previously, which she was given antibiotics, and she has been loving his acupuncture sessions that are giving her more energy, helping her appetite, increasing her ability to move around and overall improving her quality of life. Dr. Selmer is open to co-treat with our regular vet for any testing needed. We also brought our 1 yr old rottie to him that has been having skin issues, itching and hot spots.
Turns out he has allergies and was not reacting well to the no grain kibble we were giving him. We have since changed him to a raw food diet which has greatly improved his skin and he no longer gets hot spots. I am happy to recommend Dr. Selmer to anyone that is looking to be more holistic with their care and treatments for their fur baby. We will always have Dr. Selmer as part of our health care team for our fur kids.

JUST WANT TO SAY YOU SAVED MY DOG’S LIFE. PEPPER IS A 1 YR OLD BLACK LAB.
I noticed him licking his paws and scratching - he had very bad sores on them – swollen, bleeding – also on his stomach and under his chin. The vet I had always used gave him an allergy test and antibiotic pills. Test came back he was allergic to chicken and oak trees.
I changed his food to Hills Science Diet – type available – no healing process had taken place, his coat was very dull and Pepper had no energy. I was extremely worried.
Looking through my town paper, I saw a seminar for the Caring Vet, Dr. Selmer. It was a terrible rainy night, but I went – It seems what he was saying made sense. I made an appointment. It turns out Pepper is not allergic to chicken and you can’t change the environment. Dr. Selmer does not believe in “bag food”. A new allergy test and cultures of the sores was taken. Dr. Selmer knew what was wrong as soon as he saw him. After several months under Dr. Selmer’s care – eating raw meat and veggies and nutritional therapy – Pepper is back to being a puppy again – slim – trim and running around.
I can’t say enough about Dr. Selmer and his staff. Pepper loves the girls. Whatever he says to do, “DO IT”.
He truly cares about you and your pet.
Your number 1 fan,
Barbara and Pepper Mendolia
WHEN A DOCTOR PERSONALLY FOLLOWS UP TO CHECK ON THE WELL-BEING OF YOUR FURRY FAMILY MEMBER, IT AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIES FOR 5 STARS.
As a first time dog owner, I found myself lost at the idea of picking a veterinarian perfectly suited to care for my newest addition. I found Dr. Selmer while doing a search on laparoscopic spaying, and for someone who takes a holistic approach to animal care. He is one of the only veterinarians in NY who offers both of these services and who also has incredible reviews from his clients. I thought “there must be a catch – this guy seems too good to be true”.
Well, he IS real and I knew that 2 minutes after we met him in person. Being a first time dog owner, I was a nervous mom who had a million questions. Dr. Selmer patiently answered all of them, and when he said “call me with ANY questions”, he actually meant it.
He advised us on our puppy’s diet, explained when we should spay her and why, and provided us with a ton of reading material backing up everything he spoke to us about. What separates Dr. Selmer from every other veterinarian out there is how available he is, and best of all, how much he cares about his patients. I feel like he actually knows his patients, their history, and builds a relationship with each of them, which is huge for us. We’ve had 2 small incidents in the past 2 months, both on weekends and both times, Dr. Selmer got back to us in minutes. A sick family member is an emotional time for all, but you can't do better for your pet than Dr. Selmer. There’s no one we’ll ever trust more with our heart, our Golden Retriever.

I KNOW THAT ONE DAY, SOMEONE MAY BE IN YOUR OFFICE & POSSIBLY GLANCE AT THIS LETTER. FOR THAT REASON, I NEED TO GIVE A BRIEF HISTORY. PROBABLY ONE THAT MOST PEOPLE WOULD NOT BELIEVE.
I arrived at your office with my eight-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog, Paddington, about two months ago. I came to you only after researching recommended veterinarians on the internet. Your office was my third & most likely last desperate attempt to save my dog's life.
Paddington recently began having seizures. She had already been to a neurologist for an MRI of her brain & multiple other tests that were all negative. No one was able to diagnose her & she was deteriorating rapidly. Paddington could not even leave the house without collapsing. Dr. Selmer, you had never met her before. And yet in this grave condition, you did not turn Paddington away. You agreed to wait one day for her blood work that had been done at the prior vet's office.
While waiting that one day, which happened to be a Sunday, Paddington collapsed & her seizures came in clusters. She could not stand up or eat. Dr. Selmer you called, texted & emailed in support of a dog you had just met the morning before. Somehow, Paddington made it through the day & we were able to receive her blood work.
The prior veterinarian stated that her blood values were all normal. But when I received the blood work, I noticed that during her seizure her sugar level was extremely low. Dr. Selmer you called me back immediately, listened to my concerns & with your knowledge brought forth a tentative diagnosis... Addison's disease. And an appropriate treatment.
Dr. Selmer, I do not know what type of intervention this is called (maybe it really is divine). But going to you for that last, desperate attempt has saved Paddington's life. When I look at her running around in the yard, I cannot believe where we were only a few weeks ago & where we are today. It makes me cry every time.
Thank you with all our heart.
Paddington & Jennifer
HOW DO I SAY THANK YOU FOR GIVING LIFE BACK TO ME. I WAS AT ANOTHER ANIMAL HOSPITAL, FOR THE SECOND TIME, WITH CHRONIC CONSTIPATION, DYING … MY PARENTS (OWNERS) BESIDE THEMSELVES WITH WORRY AND GRIEF. THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO TO SAVE ME, DID NOT KNOW WHO TO TURN TO FOR HELP – AND THEN THEY FOUND YOU!
When they brought me to you, you looked at all of me, not just the “presenting symptoms.” You poked and prodded me, you took blood, and you came up with a plan. The blood tests showed I had, in addition to my constipation, anemia and diabetes. You had vitamins made and started me on a high fiber diet. Once you regulated my blood, you did not just say, “good enough” – but kept on digging. Your tireless endurance and search for answers resulted in discovering I also had an underactive thyroid condition – very rare for us felines!!
Now I get insulin, cisapride, fiber, home-made food, and a thyroid pill each day. But what I really have gotten from you is my life back. Instead of sleeping 20 hours a day, being grumpy because I feel so crumby and swatting at the kittens to get away from me –
I romp, play, chase, jump on top of the armoire, and forget I am soon to be a seven year old cat, not a 7 month old kitten.
Thanks, Dr. Selmer!
Love,
Freedom Walters

BELLA BEFORE AND AFTER HOMECOOKING.
I was a 1st time Bulldog Mom with no knowledge but I knew I had to figure out what was best for my FurBaby. She was put on the incorrect dose of meds by the Vet who I trusted so she was not getting past the mange and she was only a few months old at the time. She also suffered from food allergies which I was unaware of too. I didn't give up on her... I had no support from any social media forums as this was 9yrs ago... I knew no other Bulldog friends. I just knew in my gut that the Vet was wrong it wasn't "just a bulldog thing" I did my own research and found Bulldog savy Vet who steered me in the right direction.
I was helped tremendously by Dr. Michel Selmer who told me to stop everything and start cooking for her. 1 month later she made her amazing transformation. She will be 9 this year! She's our happy, crazy, strong, energetic girl! What we feed them does matter! Do your research... don't rely on people who you think know the breed, they are not professionals.

MY HUSBAND AND I GOT 2 MORKIEPOO PUPPIES ON A WHIM! A DEAR FRIEND OF OURS THAT LIVES IN SEAFORD BRINGS HER DOG TO DR. SELMER SO I KNEW THAT IS WHO WE WOULD USE. (NOT TO MENTION HE IS LITERALLY AROUND THE CORNER FROM US!)
From the 1st time I called there to make an appointment I knew we made the right choice. Everyone from the girls that answer the phones to the nurses who assist Dr. Selmer are nothing less than professional, caring and most of all loving to our "babies" Ricky & Lucy.
When I call with a question, Dr. Selmer calls back in a flash. When I am in the office he answers all of our questions.
We had both our dogs "fixed" and they both came home like they spent the day at the spa! They were back to their playful selves within 24 hours.
Our dogs are happy & healthy, we give them supplements that Dr. Selmer suggested and their coats are as smooth as silk!
We are so happy to have The Caring Vet to bring our Puppies to!!
Fondly,
The Alvarez Family

THANKS TO DR. SELMER MY JACK RUSSELL (COURTNEY) IS ALIVE TODAY AND FULL OF ENERGY AT 14 YEARS OLD!
She was not even 6 months old when she ingested parts of a fireplace throw rug causing her intestines to twist inside like a string of pearls. Dr. Selmer said she would not last if she did have immediate surgery.
My wife and I were so attached to this little energy ball that we cried when we had to let her go into the operating room. Dr. Selmer's skills saved our dog. He provided the care one would imagine getting in a people hospital ICU. Through out the years Dr. Selmer has come to our dog's aid and he continues to provide the care and professionalism one expects for a loved member of the family. If Courtney could type, she would also say THANK YOU!
- Joseph and AnnMarie Lauro
Beyond thankful to have found a veterinarian who has as much compassion, love, and knowledge as Dr. Selmer. My dog has some anger issues [which Dr. Selmer said is linked to the liver] was actually connected to the liver when he ran blood work and his liver values were abnormal. I was blown away! I am working to have a more holistic and eastern way of life, even for my pets, but it is great to have western meds when needed (especially trying to get rid of a fungal infection like my kitty). Thank you Dr. Selmer!!!!
Eileen Rosen
I am very happy I finally went to Dr Selmer, I thought he understood my problems with my dog Avery and feel we will be getting a solution soon to her allergies.

Dr. Selmer was very generous with his time on our first visit to his office. I've been looking for an integrative Vet in my area and now I have found him! He gave me a lot of interesting information to consider relating to my dog. His office is pleasant and she was very calm in the exam room. I appreciate Dr. Selmer's knowledge and expertise… I hope to work with Dr. Selmer in addition to my existing allopathic Vet for now and build a great team to help me take care of my dog. If you are interested in a holistic approach to medicine for your pet I would recommend Dr. Selmer.

Dr. Selmer is wonderful, knows his stuff. We brought our cat Mickey in last week due to loose stools, He was able to diagnose and prescribe Chinese medicine which appears to be working with Mickey. I highly recommend him.

They were all excellent with the examination and inoculation of the feral cat we have been working with. Their expertise with "Snappy" was a welcome relief. We had no idea how she would handle a vet visit, but all went well. Thank you Dr. Selmer and your wonderful staff.

I can't believe Chloe's seizures have almost disappeared. I never thought I would see the day where she would sleep through the entire night without a seizure waking her up. It's truly amazing what you have done for Chloe!

It was a pleasure meeting with Dr. Selmer. I love the way he thinks outside of the box. I am excited to have found him. His analysis was a breathe of fresh air!

Wonderful caring staff and Dr. Selmer is truly the most thorough vet I have ever come across. He will help you get to the root of your pets illness if they are sick or will help your pet stay healthy for the rest of their lives, with a combination of Eastern and Western medicine. Dr. Selmer is JB's most favorite vet! More costly than your average vet but worth it to resolve your pets issues. We Love Dr. Selmer!! Always wonderful. Honest and thoughtful. Dr Selmer is the best Vet you'll find.

Amber has been on a long road to recovery and I'm just glad she is recovering with the help of Dr. Selmer & Advanced Animal Care. Dr. Selmer gives sound medical advice, He tells you what treatment he thinks is best, but always lets you make the decision and choice of care for your pet. Much appreciated. Amber & I both thank you.

Our first visit with The Caring Vet was a positive experience. The veterinarian was very knowledgeable and educated us on how to best care for our puppy. We don't have a lot of experience with pets and he was non judgemental and gently educated us and recommended what was best for our puppy but did not pressure us into doing more than we could afford. I also have three small kids under the age of 3 and the office staff was very nice and polite and tolerated them.
Tara Kaires
Always love visiting Dr. Selmer and staff!

I've been having problems with my cat Toby. Toby is almost 14 years old and has had very good health. Over the summer of 2015 he started throwing up. I changed his food to every diet possible. My regular vet said he's in good health but can't figure out what is wrong. He went from 14 pounds to 6 pounds. My regular vet gave him a pill and she pretty much said well if this doesn't work, prepare to put him down. So I found Dr. Selmer and brought him in two days later. Automatically he picked up on problems my regular vet never even thought to look for. Dr. Selmer explained to us all of our possibilities and worked with us with how much we could afford. He's been very helpful in making sure Toby is very comfortable and giving us more time. I would definitely recommend to anyone I know. It's nice to have a vet that works with you no matter what, and isn't in it just for the money.
Kristi Povey
Everyone there is very caring and professional and take care of my Chloe very well!
Paul Cagnard
I am very appreciative of the attention and care given to Bruin during our visit. The options were laid out very well and I wasn't made to feel like everything had to be done at once. It was mutually decided to try and eliminate the larger, potentially more threatening issues in term of the big picture yet provide some comfort for his pain. We will be back for follow ups soon and eventually my other Newfie will be making a visit as well.

I've been trying to find a integrated vet for years. Met Dr. Selmer at a health expo and liked his philosophy on medicine and nutrition. My first visit was excellent. Dr. Selmer was thorough and addressed my dog's individual needs. Answered all my questions. His staff was very friendly and efficient too. Highly recommend his practice.

"This is a vet who takes his time to talk to you about the lifestyle, health and diet and other habits of your dog. He is caring and he gives you his full attention, none of this five minutes in and out as if it were an assembly line nonsense. In short I trust him. He will tell you all of your alternatives and choices. He's the best vet I've ever visited and its not easy since he lives a little over an hour away depending on traffic and yet I would choose him every time"

They are incredibly caring and helpful and Dr. Selmer listens to all of your concerns about your pet's situation. I also love that they incorporate Western medicine with Chinese medicine to give your pet the best care of both worlds. I would highly recommend this vet to anyone.
Rose P , Centerport, NY
I have been to see The Caring Vet 3 times so far with my cat. Have received excellent advice on treatments for my pet's health issues. Dr. Selmer offers advanced, educated and natural solutions for animals and this is the way to go if you want your pet to get better and stay healthy. I will continue taking my cat to Dr. Selmer and will never go back to a conventional animal doctor. Dr. Selmer's staff is excellent, friendly and very helpful. I wish I had done my research and found out about The Caring Vet sooner.
Richard H, Dix Hills, NY
Dr Selmer is excellent. When I first brought Nora to him she was suffering with chronic rashes which resulted in itching and biting her skin raw. With a combination of Western and Eastern medicine she is completely healed. Her coat and skin have never been healthier and her energy level has improved as well. Overall, a much happier and healthier German Shepherd Dog, and owner!

As always Dr. Selmer took the necessary time to assess and thoroughly explain Charlie's issue. Fortunately, the minor hives I brought him in for were nothing to be concerned about and the treatment was quick and painless. During his examination, Dr. Selmer noticed a heart murmur which is now being monitored. We are so appreciative of Dr. Selmer and his team in how they never leave a stone unturned. Thanks again for all you do!

My 18 year old cat, Crystal received wonderful care and lots of love from The Caring Vet. Dr. Selmer is an excellent diagnostician and determined that she indeed had kidney disease. She received an individualized supplement formula and acupuncture. She received a very thorough workup and was always treated in an affectionate and professional manner. Thank you
David H, East Northport, NY
if you are looking for a Veterinarian I highly recommend The Caring Vet. Our experiences with them have been very professional and they really seem to love working with animals. We love our dog so much and they treat her as she ought to be treated, with great skill and care.

Dr. Selmer and his staff were as caring and compassionate as could be. Had a great visit and saw a difference in our dog after just one visit.

My 12 yr old cat normally hisses, spits and growls at our vet. I was very nervous coming to a new place. Surprisingly she was encouraged to explore and she was calm the entire visit. When she went in the back for further testing I thought she woulld act up but she remained calm and allowed them to get blood, take her temp and swab her eye and throat!! This is unheard of!! I left feeling hopeful I'm looking forward to following the Dr's plan and healing my baby!!

First Visit...
We took our 4 year old shih tzu to see Dr. Selmer because she has issues with developing bladder stones and the prescription food she was on contained chicken, a food we were sure was causing an allergic reaction. We were hoping for a more holistic approach to helping her to combat bladder stones while remaining itch-free. Dr. Selmer used a combination of Western medicine and Chinese medicine when assessing the situation. He suggested doing an allergy test and starting her on Chinese herbs. The allergy test was expensive, but Dr. Selmer never pressured us to have this done. He was very clear about the fact that this was our choice, to do, or not do, whatever we felt was best for our family. He understood that it was expensive and that we had to make the decision on our own, without any judgment from him. We went ahead and had the allergy test done, and then had a phone conversation with Dr. Selmer to go over next steps regarding a new diet for our dog. Whether in the office or on the phone, Dr. Selmer was extremely professional, understanding, clear, and patient. We never felt rushed when we were speaking to him. We also never felt pressured to do what he was suggesting. It's been a great experience working with Dr. Selmer in the care of our dog.
Second Visit...
Every time I bring my dog, Mojo, to Dr. Selmer, I am amazed at how well this office is run. There is never a wait to see the doctor, and there is never a shortage of love and attention for Mojo. Dr. Selmer is incredibly knowledgeable, patient and understanding, and I have already seen positive changes in Mojo. It feels so good to be able to help Mojo be the healthiest she can be, naturally, using herbs and a healthy home cooked diet. It's important to be patient when trying Chinese medicine, and in some cases it can be pricey, but it's the best care I've ever gotten for any of my pets. Great office, great staff, and great doctor.
Gina Anderson, Brightwaters, NY
Dr. Selmer and his staff are wonderful. I brought Nardo to see the doctor in May because he was getting older and thunder and fireworks would frighten him-he trembles and pants uncontrollably. After implementing Dr. Selmer's recommendations Nardo was able to go thru the 4th of July with no problem and he is getting better with thunder as well. I was happily surprised when Nardo's dry skin was gone and 99% of his tartar on his teeth disappeared as well. That was an added bonus! I was worried about having to put him under anesthesia to clean his teeth but not anymore! I'm glad I met him at the Navel Expo.

The staff at Advanced Animal care were very professional and caring. Dr Selmer took the time to not only examine Amber but also to go over with me her past medical history and diet, food as well as supplements, in order to make an assessment of her needs. Dr. Selmer put together a comprehensive treatment plan of what Amber needs done, and then left it up to me to determine how much of the plan I wanted or could afford. No hard sell here. This was our first visit to Advanced Animal Care Center and I am very pleased by what I see. I actually felt a huge weight lifted off me after I left, because finally I feel we will get to the root of Ambers problems and make her well.
Elaine Deangelis
It has been a truly positive experience dealing with Dr. Selmer and his staff. His compassion and dedication to animals comes through with his treatment of his patient and owner. I feel confident that I am doing a great service to my dog by taking her to Dr. Selmer for her medical needs.
Curtis Meyer
Very caring and thorough staff and Dr. Selmer is wonderful. My cat was very comfortable and I have recommended the practice to 2 others. Dr. Selmer helped save my friend's cat life where 'regular' vets just felt at 14 years that there was little to be done when it was allergy related.

The most caring loving veterinarian office I have ever been to in 34 years of being a dog parent <3

Excellent caring Vet and friendly professional staff! The office is neat and exceptionally clean. Very happy! Highly recommend Advanced Animal Care!

I was very happy with my visit to Advance Animal Care Center. Dr. Selmer and staff where very caring, compassionate and professional. I was a bit scared and worried about my Diamonds health issues; After the initial check up, Dr. Selmer discussed how we were going to go forward and get Diamond into better health, his upbeat attitude helped me to a better frame of mind. I must say after her first acupuncture treatment her breathing and her leg was amazing result, but again we take it one thing at a time knowing there will be good days and not so many bad days.
Heidi B.
Excellent service as always!!!! Belle and I came in with a broken nail, Dr Selmer made sure Belle was comfortable before he had to cut her nail. We waited for her to recover from the anesthesia before I took her home. Dr Selmer treats his patients as if they were his own furry friend.
Cecelia S.
I was so pleased that I could have the care I wanted for molly. This is a great place and molly likes it too.

Dr. Selmer is the BEST. When I have to bring Max in he always knows how to treat him. He always takes the time to tell us what the best options are. Thanks Doc.

"Dr. Selmer is amazing. My dog is 14 because of him. He treats her for Cushing's disease and she has never looker or felt better since she has been in his care. Dr. Selmer and his staff are so knowledgeable and loving. We feel like family. My dog is my life, so I trust him with my life"

"Dr. Selmer's attention to detail and knowledge of all possible options, plus the loving care of his office staff"

"By far the best vet around. Takes time to explain things, does what needs to be done. Does not add on tests or procedures that don't need to be done. Makes himself available to by phone at any hour if needs be."
Jessica Q
"Dr. Selmer is a teacher for many of the classes in the vet tech program I am currently enrolled in. On top of running a successful practice, he has the time to teach classes and also give his students extra help in his spare time. He is extremely knowledgeable about veterinary medicine whether it be regular medicine or holistic. He always holds what is the best for the animals he works with in the highest regard and for these reason I would like to nominate him as the Veterinarian of the year."
Robert K.
"Dr. Selmer is my other family doctor for my other family members."

"Michel has been our vet for over 17 yrs. he is knowledgeable, compassionate and very available. His incorporation of Eastern medicine modalities with traditional Western practice has helped our dog live with cancer far longer than we ever expected. Raven loved his acupuncture! Michel is the best. "
Kelly M.
"His incorporation of both Eastern and Western medicine while caring for pets as well as his focus on TCM."

"I met Dr. Selmer and his staff 11 years ago when I first got my dog. It was my first dog - and he has been amazing an patient with me and has taught me so much and taken such great care of both of my dogs for the past 11 years. I cannot imagine going anywhere else!"
Mary-Beth C.
Luca is my second pet I've brought to Dr. Selmer. The approach to care is an integrated one. He looks both through the lens of a well-trained western clinician asking 'what', as well asking the deeper question of why.

Always enjoy our visits. The herbal meds have helped Raven tremendously. Thank you

We were very pleased with our initial visit to see The Caring Vet. Dr. Selmer and his staff are very friendly, caring and professional. He is exactly the vet we were looking for. We wanted someone who practiced both eastern and western medicine. Dr. Selmer listened to our concerns and is very thorough and knowledgeable. Our dog seems to be doing better and we are optimistic concerning her treatment and outcome.

Dr. Selmer was very gentle and thorough with my pet's visit. He is detailed and patient in answering questions. Reasonable pricing.

I have been very worried about my little Ozzy for quite a long time now as I have seen some signs that lead me to feel that his health is not where it should be. I did what I believed to be all the right things, but still I have the feeling things are not right.
After my first visit with Dr. Selmer at the Advanced Animal Care Center, I feel for the first time my little Ozzy is on the right path to better health. I hope there is still time for this to happen for him.
Patty O.
Always such a comforting pleasure with Dr. Selmer and his staff! They are wonderful and I know my dogs get the best care.
Mary Beth C.
Dr. Selmer is wonderful. I have a cat with a chronic condition of bladder stones. My conventional vet did all she could to mitigate the problem with no relief, with surgery being the next step. We went to Dr. Selmer who went right after treating the inflammation with Chinese herbs. Satch hasn't had one blocked episode since. It's amazing!
Barbara N.
The office was immaculate and the vet & staff were very friendly. We arrived shortly before our appt time and we're immediately taken into the exam room. We were very satisfied with the service we received. Being from Buffalo we just picked a vet from Google and found a good one.
Elaine D.
My experience with Animal Care Center was five star. I was seen in a timely manner, the facility was spotless and cheerful and Dr. Selmer and his staff were welcoming and friendly and my dog was treated with love. I am totally confident that I have found someone to give my dog the optimum care possible to keep her healthy and happy through her senior years. Great job will recommend you to everyone with pets that I know.
Sue L.
Dr. Selmer and his staff has been helping me look after my cats for a couple of years. Not once has his level of service faltered. He is a true gentleman and treats your pets as though they were his own. One of them has a long-standing breathing issue. He's always looking into new research and different treatment options to give him the best level of care possible. I cannot imagine being a pet owner without him on my team.
Felix C.
Very caring and responsive to concerns. Incorporates Eastern and Western medical modalities. Our 14 yr old Raven is doing well.
Denise D.
Always an outstanding experience. My cat would not be alive if not for Dr. Selmer. He intelligently, compassionately and thoroughly developed a diagnosis and treatment approach and continues to monitor and adjust according.
Dennis B.
Best I have ever experienced. They treat your pet as if it was their own. Can't say enough positive things!
Barbara M.
Always feel good because I know pepper is going to get better !!!

My precious Maltese almost died after being misdiagnosed by my former vet. Dr. Selmer correctly diagnosed and took care of her illness. He also helped improve a torn ligament in her back leg with the use of herbs and acupuncture, eliminating the need for surgery. Dr. Selmer's wealth of knowledge seems boundless. He and his staff are kind and caring. The care my dog received was excellent.
Heidi B.
Great VET!!!!!!! Oreo is already feeling better!

Always an excellent experience. My cat, Puddles would not be alive today if it weren't for Dr. Selmer. Visits are always informative, compassionate and thorough. many thanks to Doc and the team.

Dr. Selmer is great, as always. Kodak is a new patient for Dr. Selmer, Kodak very comfortable with Dr. Selmer and his star all he wanted to do was to kiss everyone.
Priscilla, K , Huntington, NY
The staff is very pleasant, professional and caring. Dr. Selmer is wonderful with Diamond and has brought her to a healthier happy dog.
Well, I have really one thing to say about Dr. Selmer - he's amazing!
I have a beautiful 11 year old Shar Pei Bailei who has been to an endless amount of vets with different diagnosis every time I go. They would prescribe meds that never helped and offered ways to help her that never worked. She has a huge tumor like lump on her back leg and her other leg is swollen with a liquid coming out. She has had numerous UTI's, skin rashes, ear infections...it's not been easy for her. She was diagnosed with cancer, Shar Pei Fever and was basically told that she was a Shar Pei and they had problems. I couldn't accept that and saw an ad for Dr. Selmer. I brought Bailei in and he was the first vet to actually really care about Bailei. He ran a series of tests and it turns out she had a ton of allergies. The food I was feeding her (including her treats) she was allergic to and she was lying on her blanket which was cotton (she is also allergic to cotton). We recently ran a test to see if she has Cushing's Disease (the signs are pointing in that direction) so I am waiting for the results. But no one even mentioned this to me. I never really felt she had cancer or Shar Pei Fever and this is the first time I am 100% secure that I will get a correct diagnosis. I had so many questions for Dr. Selmer and he is always there to answer them. I am never left hanging as I was with other vets. Finding Dr. Selmer was the best move I have ever made for the welfare of my wonderful Best Friend! I'm not sure what the outcome will be...but I know for sure that whatever it is I have Dr. Selmer at my side the whole way! I cannot thank him enough for that! Also, I must mention that his team is so caring, considerate, friendly and compassionate. It's a pleasure to go into the office to see them all! They always make you feel welcome!!! I will never take my dog anywhere else ever again! I have found my forever vet!
Warm regards,
Valerie Druckman
Latest report:
Buffett seems to be doing better. The night after I met with you guys (I hadn't started the medicine yet) I got a video of him shaking/panting during a soft rain/thunder. He's been on the medicine a couple of weeks now and we've had a couple of thunderstorms since. He still gets anxious, but it's better.
He hasn't tried to jump out the window nor chewed out our windowsills. Amazing. His tail still goes between his legs but he's not panting as hard as usual. He's still scared but it's not as dramatic.
Today we were at the beach and heard two big rolls of thunder. I biked home as fast as I could because a month ago when the same instance happened of slight thunder, he jumped out the slightly open window, jumped our 5.5 fence and was injured. I saw him running down the street as I was heading home (separate incident from the 4th of July injuries when he got his head stuck in that fence and ripped out his teeth, then jumped the fence). When I went inside (a month ago), he had chewed out the wood around two windowsills, chewed out our screen door and the casings around it upstairs, and there was blood all around the house on the floor. Today, I got home figuring I'd find the same situation, and while he came to the door to greet me panting, nothing was destroyed in the house.

"JUST WANTED TO UPDATE EVERYONE....
about a month ago Bella had a cornea ulcer, interdigital cysts, bald spots, redness on her face and skin folds......after going under Dr. Selmer's care and having her whole diet transformed and adding new additional nutritional supplement support she is now looking and feeling amazing! Her hair has almost all come back....she plays and acts like a big puppy. I can not believe the difference. Her eye is all better and didn't require surgery like the 3 times before. Dr. Selmer and staff were so wonderful to us. It gives us such peace of mind knowing she is getting the proper care by someone who shares a love for the breed. Thanks Dr. Selmer for all your help!
Happy and safe 4th to everyone!"

Heidi B, Medford, NY Dr. Selmer took great care of our Belle who broke 2 nails to the bone... poor thing. I will not see another vet ever again. He is the best. Belle Loves him and trusts him and so do we!!!! Thanks for making her feel better 🙂

This was our first visit. It was a good experience overall from walking in the door to walking out. There was great communication during the visit, we genuinely felt that our concerns were heard and understood. We were presented with a treatment plan that we felt was a good plan and something we were comfortable with.
Tina R, Wheatley Heights, NY Dr. Selmer's attention to detail and determination to get to the bottom of any medical situation is truly a gift to any pet owner that needs him. His light spirit, honesty, and kindness helped to guide me to make the best decision when faced with difficult medical choices. Words cannot express my appreciation for the guidance and care he provided to save my young cherished cocker spaniel through two life threatening experiences. I could only hope to find a medical Doctor for myself and family members that is as competent and caring as Dr. Selmer's and his staff.
Wendy P, Merrick, NY The best Vet I have ever used. Everyone there is kind and rarely a wait time. I have had pets my whole life and have never found a doctor who used alternative medicine combined with traditional medicine until I started using Dr Selmer three years ago.

The 2 things I will always do is get pet insurance and take my pet to The Caring Vet! Good health care is expensive even for a pet. As the old saying goes "You get what you pay for!" Thanks Dr. Selmer!
Shari B, Melville, NY After seeing 3 vets in the Huntington area and spending several thousand dollars only to hear that my 9 month old male Doberman pinscher was having growing pains and was on all kinds of drugs to help him deal with the pain. He was acting like a 15 year old dog who yelped and cried if you went near him, the lightest touch made him scream, it was like he was ready to pass on, this being my 3rd Dobie I knew there was something else going on, that's when I learned of Dr. Selmer. On my first visit with Dr. Selmer he walked into the office, I described what was happening to my dog, he looked into his very red eyes, smelled his breath, did a few other basic in the room tests and turned to me and said your dog does not have growing pains he has a stagnant liver. I looked at him and said stagnant liver, he said yes, get him off all meds, they are going to destroy his urinary tract. At that time he started my dog on some Chinese holistic medicine and did other testing as well. It turned out that my dog had Lyme disease also, which was tested twice by the other vets a few weeks prior, he was treated for that misdiagnosis also. Now my dog is a robust full of life dobie, he has not yelped or cried from pain since and he has not taken any drugs since my first office visit, I believe if it weren't for Dr. Selmer and I accepted the diagnosis of the 3 other vets my dog would have had a miserable short life. Some of the previous reviews mentioned cost as being an issue, I felt he was very thorough and yes it does cost extra money, that's something that as a person you have to ask yourself, is my pet worth it? I can tell you that Dr. Selmer was very knowledgeable and too the point. He gets 5 stars just for being able to treat my dog in the manner that he did.
Erica A, Long Island City, NY
Dr. Selmer has been our Vet since our dog was 6 months old (he is 7 yrs old now). There isn't enough room on this page for all the positive things to say about him and his practice. We lived in the city and would drive an hour just to go to him because we could not find anyone who could compare to him and who took such good care of our dog. Dr. Selmer has on numerous times emailed/texted us to follow up on our dog's health and always made time for us. He always takes time to educate us about our dog's symptoms/complaints. I feel totally safe with his recommendations and care for our dog. We will never go anywhere else and recommend him to everyone we know has a pet.
Karen V, Ronkonkoma, NY
Dr. Selmer and his staff are great! I came to Dr. Selmer because my own vet who I had been going to for 10 years would not let me make any sort of choice in my dogs care. Dr. Selmer listened to what I was thinking, gave me his professional opinion and then let me decide. He is very knowledgeable also very kind and friendly to my dog. His staff could not be any friendlier to me or my dog and I really appreciate that when I am bringing my sick dog into the office
Linda W, Babylon, NY
We met Dr. Selmer a year ago when we had a very sick little puppy mill rescue doxie. With Dr. Selmer's care and guidance our Benjamin Franklin is now thriving. Dr. Selmer treats his veterinary patients the way humans should be cared for - looking at the whole person and seeking the root cause vs. just prescribing a pill. If cost is an issue Dr. Selmer is happy to discuss options - you just need to ask. And I have to mention that the entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable and love what they do.
Lisa B, West Harrison, IN
My animals are a huge part of my life, therefore Dr. Selmer is too. His identity quote as, 'Your other family doctor' could not be more spot on. He truly cares not only about my animals and yours, but he cares deeply about us as owners, and about the integrity of his work. As a professional who is so intelligent, and presents himself so well, I truly believe he is one of the smartest individuals I have ever known. Dr. Selmer does not practice elective medicine, and to me, there is nothing more moral coming from a practicing medical doctor. He chooses to do only the necessary work on patients to obtain ideal results. Not only have I had personal, transformational results with my own animals through Dr. Selmer's devotional work, but I have heard remarkable stories of others' animals going through the same transformations; overcoming disease through nutrition, acupuncture, and preventative care. He has patients from all over the country; dedicated clients who sincerely understand the quality of his work, and the passion in his heart. Dr. Selmer is nothing but a devoted and moral vet. I would recommend no one else.
T.D. Westbury, NY
I have been going to Dr. Selmer for seven years with my dog. Thanks to his knowledge and intuition, he was able to diagnose my dog with Cushings Disease very early on and saved her life. HE CONTINUES TO SAVE HER LIFE. It is because of Dr. Selmer that she is alive and healthy, and I will get to love her for many years to come. Every time we leave, I leave with a healthier dog, AND I leave with knowledge, and know how to care for my pet the best way I can. I would guarantee patients of other vets don't have the same health, or success like the ones that are under the care of Dr. Selmer. To anyone reading this, if you love your pet, this is the place to take them. Dr. Selmer is knowledgeable and thorough and he will give you the tools, and the knowledge to be the best pet parent you can be. He is caring, loving, and knows things other Vets don't take the time to know. My dog is 12 and looks and acts like a young pup, even with her disease. WHY? because she has been under excellent care. The best day of my life was the day I walked through the door and met Dr. Selmer. More important, it was the best day of my dog's life. Anyone reading this should know how truly amazing both this Doctor and his practice are. They do amazing things here, and I'm proud to say my dog is one of them.

The best animal care on Long Island is led by The Caring Vet. Dr. Selmer and his staff are caring, compassionate and dedicated to giving pets the best quality of life regardless of the pet's health issue. Acupuncture, Chinese herbs and individualized nutritional counseling are among the amazing tools offered by Dr. Selmer that will change the health of your pet. The quality of life improved dramatically for my 2 dogs under his care. The best thing you can do for your pet is to get health insurance and then bring them to Dr. Selmer.

We can’t say enough about how wonderful Dr. Selmer and his team are, they are truly phenomenal!!! We have a 13 yr old Shihtzu that has had skin problems that we have been unable to find relief for. Dr. Selmer's approach of blending the Eastern and Western medicines and philosophies is what really makes him unique. He has given our "little problem child" relief and it's really amazing but we have seen other improvements overall in her liveliness, her eyes look brighter and she just flat out seems happier. The other thing that sets Dr. Selmer head and shoulders above others is his availability to you as a parent of a patient. I have had numerous conversations with Dr. Selmer via email and over the phone, not only does he make himself readily available he encourages you to keep in contact with him so that he's up to date with any and all changes that your pet experiences. I look forward to continuing the relationship with Dr. Selmer as he truly has given our little one her quality of life back.
Jess F, Huntington, NY
Dr. Selmer is great! He has been nothing but friendly to us and a thousand times better than our last vet. Our cat was very ill and he made sure to do all the proper tests, keep in contact with us, answer any and all questions, and he emails back quickly. It's so nice to now have a vet invested in our cat's condition, he furthered his knowledge on the illness even though we are using a specialist to chiefly address the condition. Never have to wait long because they don't overbook appointments like other offices.
George C, Huntington, NY
Dr. Selmer has proven to be a very good and caring vet to our family member, Barney, a 75lb male chocolate lab. When we decided to treat Barney's anxiety, Dr. Selmer suggested acupuncture. After six weeks of treatment, Barney has considerably calmed down that was previously experienced, increasing the quality of life for both Barney and us.
