WE APPROACH VETERINARY CARE FROM AN
INTEGRATIVE-HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE.
This means two things:
- We believe in ideal health for every pet; and
- We achieve ideal health by combining "the best of both worlds" in veterinary medicine: standard care and alternative care based on traditional Chinese medicine.
But a healthy pet isn't just one without disease. For your pet to maintain good health, its body -- and all its bodily systems-- must be in balance. When one of the systems is not in balance, its function is compromised, which will cause imbalance in the other body systems. Each of the body systems relies on the others to maintain health and balance. We believe that the best way to treat illness is to support the compromised body system and restore balance in the body.
Once the compromised body system's function is restored, balance will be obtained, and the body will be able heal in a natural fashion.
Diet, environment, breed, previous medical history, and previous treatments all will have an effect on your pet's health. Our "best of both worlds" approach incorporates all of these factors when coming up with a diagnosis and treatment plan that individualizes the health care needs of your pet.
CHRONIC DISEASE
A pet in good health will have the balance and energy to adapt and cope with stresses, ie. physical trauma, emotional trauma, seasonal changes, infections, toxins, and nutritional inadequacies. If the pet's body systems are overwhelmed and cannot adapt or cope with these stresses, balance is disrupted and illness results. Over time imbalances may lead to chronic diseases, such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, kidney disease, Addison’s Disease, Cushing’s Disease, cancer, or many other potential illnesses. By providing good nutrition, plenty of exercise, restful sleeps, and love, we can ensure that your pet has the tools and energy to be able to adapt to the everyday stresses, maintain balance, and prevent chronic diseases. If your pet already suffers from a degenerative disease, we will attempt to correct the imbalances by combining Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, Western Veterinary Medicine, and Naturopathy to help restore health and balance.
WELLNESS CARE
By allowing us to do the recommended early detection testing and regular examinations of your pet, we will be able to catch a potential problem well before it becomes serious, offering a much better chance for a quick and full recovery.
ABOUT VACCINES
Our vaccine programs are tailored for each individual pet, taking into consideration the pet's risk level to the disease being vaccinated for, as well as the pet's health status. While I support the use of vaccines and acknowledge their importance in disease control, I am very selective and conservative in their administration. If I do decide that vaccines are necessary, I rarely will give more than one vaccine at a time. We also give the option for vaccine titers and generally encourage their use to determine if your pet even needs the vaccine. Remember, you are a partner in deciding your pet's health care and we will always respect your choices.
ABOUT DIET
There is no right or wrong, black or white, when it comes to diet. Depending on your pet's medical history, we can understand what is ideal and what is not. We can make intelligent decisions, which at least take us ever closer to the ideal dietary recommendations for your pet. We actively prescribe raw diets, home-cooked diets, and grain-free diets, all customized to your pet's needs. Sometimes finances, lifestyle, or medical conditions dictate the use of other types of diets. We will work with you to find the best possible option.
FLEA, TICK & HEARTWORM CONTROL
There are a variety of chemical and natural remedies that can be used to combat parasites such as ticks, fleas and heartworm. By considering your pet's health status, environmental risks and your personal beliefs together we can decide which option is best.
DENTAL CARE
Dental disease can compromise the quality of your pet's life by leading to oral pain, infections, tooth loss, kidney disease, heart disease, and pancreatic disease. Prevention of dental disease by maintaining good oral hygiene is still the best way to reduce or eliminate the occurrence of some of the most common diseases in our dogs and cats. Even with the high quality diets and regular brushing, many will require professional treatments.
