To vaccinate or not vaccinate… for many holistically minded pet parents, while this may not be THE question, it can be A question. Chapter 4 of my book, The Best of Both Worlds (Get your copy here.) talks in more detail about this, but here’s a quick overview:
When people experience the healing power of acupuncture, if they’re dog lovers, they naturally start to seek out this treatment for their beloved pet. The same goes for chiropractic, herbal remedies, nutritional therapies and medical massage. It’s a natural extension. Once we know how these modalities make our lives better, we’re more likely to extend our appreciation and demand for a holistic approach to our pet’s care.
It’s no surprise, then, that the “anti-vax” movement in the human population — supported by former medical researchers, celebrity activists and even, in 2016, a major motion picture dedicated to the vaccine debate — has sparked some additional research and plenty of questions in the veterinary arena. While many doctors — veterinarians included — don’t appreciate you questioning “how things have always been done,” my hope is to encourage you to do your own research and not allow politics, tradition or your veterinarian’s demands to deter you from making an informed decision about your dog’s vaccination schedule.
