Herbie is a 12 1/2 year old Maltese. My husband had just finished treatment for his cancer and had always wanted a dog so I figured what better gift to give him so I surprised him with Herbie. We immediately fell in love with Herbie, he fit right in with our famiy. He loves going for walks and playing with his favorite toy, Winnie the Pooh.
Herbie hasn’t exactly had it “easy” in the health department. For a long while, he struggled with two bad knees, which made it difficult for him to go for walks which he loves. Additionally, he seemed lethargic, was having neck pain, and had cancer twice which we treated with surgery.
In the past, we were told by our veterinarian that Herbie was “borderline” for Cushings disease, and when we asked what was needed to be done they always told us to just follow up with bloodwork.
I wanted to start feeding him a homemade, healthy diet but did not know where to start. I began searching for information about cooking for Herbie on the internet and came across Dr. Selmer, and boy am I glad I did!!
Our first visit with Dr Selmer was very thorough with lots of questions about Herbie. After Dr. Selmer did bloodwork and ran tests, he was able to confirm that Herbie did have Cushing disease, food allergies and a heart murmur. Herbie now gets acupuncture, herbal supplements, minerals and on a homemade food diet.
Herbie is now able to go for walks comfortably again, has more energy and has his pain under control 🙂 We could not be happier with the progress Herbie has made. We are so thankful for Dr. Selmer and his staff.
Dr. Selmer really gets to the root of the problem instead of trying to only mask the symptom!!
